Welcoming Ben to Lahloo Tea!

15 Jul

It’s no joke when we say we were literally inundated with responses to our recent ad for a new TEAm member. We’ve got to say there were some great candidates around and it was a very tough decision to make but Ben’s positive, fun  attitude and enthusiasm really shone through. He’s only been here a short while but we know 100% we made a great decision by snapping Ben up and can’t wait to see how he develops and takes his role. Quite simply, he rocks!

When we first met him Ben, he was honest and admitted his usual tipple was builders tea and only ever the teabag variety but loved the sound of Lahloo as a company and couldn’t wait to try all the different teas we had to offer! To work for Lahloo it’s important to be passionate about our teas but most importantly to be open-minded and keen to discover the joy of good quality loose leaf tea!

Ben summed up his first few weeks for us;

” My favourites are Earl Grey (I can see why it won Great Taste Awards this year and last) and Guri-cha. Also, the Matcha totally rocks!!! It’s a super tea packed full of amazing antioxidants and it really keeps me going! It’s a pleasure to be surrounded by such tasty teas and knowing how much care has gone into producing them. I trust Lahloo as a company and this is really important to me. I never realised just how much better Lahloo tea could be than my old teabags, but you just can’t compare them! I’ve even converted my family, girlfriend and my best mate-and that’s after a couple of weeks! It’s easy to see why Kate and the team are so passionate about their teas. I can’t wait to find out more…..”

Bored tea break

When I found Zoe and Alice (the lovely ladies who keep all of us sane at The Office) looking a little down I challenged them to the Lahloo Work Place Challenge! Once I had reassured them both that the only requirement from them was to replace their usual tea with Lahloo tea, they were keen to get involved! I even offered to make their first cuppa for them…

Zoe is expecting her first baby so was keen to choose a caffeine free option and Alice wanted something to help with her sluggish digestion, so the obvious choice was English Peppermint. Quintessentially English this tasty tea really hits the spot! Alice and Zoe both raved about it and were happy to ditch their old tea.

In the words of Alice, “Tea for me used to be a mundane experience.  However once I tried the Lahloo peppermint tea I was totally converted!  As soon as it passes my lips I feel full of zingy goodness and completely galvanized (if that’s a word…)”

Zoe thought it was “really delicious and her ‘bump’ agreed too!

Workplace glum

When I found Zoe and Alice (the lovely ladies who keep all of us sane at The Office) looking a little glum I decided to challenge them to the Lahloo Work Place Challenge! Always up for trying something new, the bubbly duo agreed to be Lahloo’s newest tea guinea pigs. Lahloo’s mission is clear – we want to get real people reawakening their taste buds to discover just how real tea should taste and in doing so, brightening up their tea breaks!

Lahloo Tea: real tea for real people ♥

28 Apr

Me!

This is me as a little girl. I’ve always loved nice things to eat and drink – especially jam on toast! In those days, tea wasn’t my thing like it is now! But people were. I have always been a real extrovert – I love people!  So, one of the things I love most about running my own business, Lahloo Tea, is meeting really interesting people.

With all the things we get involved in with Lahloo Tea throughout the year, we meet some wonderful people and make really great friends. It also means I get to do what I love most – talk about (and I can talk for England) truly fabulous tea! We even meet interesting folk on the 5th floor of our hub – this window cleaner recently dropped in for a cuppa. Real tea for real people!

Window cleaner

At food festivals like Abergavenny, Dartmouth and The Real Food Festival the highlight for me is meeting gourmet-loving foodies, fellow food and drink producers, chefs and restaurateurs and retail buyers. And with a simple cup of tea, I can open their eyes up to this gourmet epiphany that is just waiting to be unearthed.

Not only is it great fun meeting people, it’s also fun to taste wonderful things (and take home swapsies)! My fav’s have been Orchard Pig, Pieminister, Rude Health, Yeo Valley and Hobbs House and Trethowan’s Dairy Gorwydd Caerphilly!

I’ve also enjoyed (and look forward to working with) other passionate producers to create something really unique.  Working with the Willy Wonka-like Damian Allsop to create our sensational tea chocolates was so much fun – not to mention tasty! And we love our bite-sized shortbread treats from Hart’s Bakery.

Sweet treats

But one of the most interesting parts is meeting those people who take the plunge and choose to help me challenge people’s views on serving loose leaf tea. They’ve chosen to upgrade their tea offering by serving and/or retailing Lahloo Tea. Not only do I get to meet brilliantly talented chefs, like The Walnut Tree’s Shaun Hill (he is a great character and a real advocate of Lahloo Tea), The Seahorse and Rockfish Grill chef-owner Mitch Tonks and Gordon Ramsey’s Best Restaurant winners 2011 Jonray and Pete Sanchez, I also meet inspirational, fun entrepreneurs like James Layfield and Steve Pette at Central Working.

Fun

Thank you so much to all of you who have helped me spread the word that Lahloo Tea really is real tea for real people ♥! Long may we continue!

Say goodbye office and hello Central!

27 Apr

One of the things I love about twitter is the people I’ve met. As weird as it sounds to all of you out there who aren’t fans, I have met some great people. I have built really strong friendships, like me old muckers Dan @essesxeating (not to be confused with TOWIE) and Elly @pearcafe, as well as business relationships.

steve_jamesI recently met these two top chaps, Steve and James from @centralworking, when I replied to a tweet hunt for a cracking tea supplier to work with at their exciting new venture in London. I popped to the big smoke for a day and met with them to see how I could help. I loved their concept and less than a month later they’ve opened, I’m a member so I have a fab place to work from when I need to, and whatsmore they’re serving Lahloo Tea. Speedy!

When I was looking at launching Lahloo Tea I really struggled to find the right place to work. I had always worked with lots of people, both leading teams and well as looking after customers, in hospitality and retail and so to be stuck at home alone in my spare room-cum-office was a real struggle. But I just didn’t have the budget to pay for an office and neither was it very appealing having never worked in an office before! So I had to balance between noisy coffee shops and home and make do. Now, if there had been somewhere like Central I’d have joined in a flash!

I think it’s a wonderful solution to people who want to run their own business and want somewhere to do it and be able to meet people doing the same thing. Here’s what they say about Central. And I hope you agree, it’s a great concept!

We believe that there are endless opportunities to build the business or career you dream of. The problem is a lack of space, resource and inspiration to help you maximize this opportunity.

So we want to fix this. With your help Central’s going to be a place where you can find the people and essential things you need, when you need them, whether that be a desk, a friendly smile or a lovely cup of Mozzo coffee or a mug of Lahloo Tea.

We want to build a membership full of interesting, passionate and driven people who want to make the best of the opportunities the world has to offer, be that a new venture, a new connection or a bit of inspiration.

artists impressionYou’ll have had times when your office is too distracting, or when you’ve tried to “work from home” but found it too isolating. Maybe you’ve tried a coffee shop but it’s just not right, you can’t even go to the loo without losing your chair. So maybe a private members club, not if you want to print and bind documents, make a phone call, register your post, get a courier, or you need a USB key.

We believe it’s time for a change. Central provides a welcoming and collaborative place to meet, eat, work and be inspired. We are on the high street, just where you need us, and we want to be full of people who are passionate about their business, whatever that may be.

We’re a new concept, we know we’re not going to get everything right. We are going to launch in Beta, which means we want you to tell us what you think and much more importantly we are going to listen. We will be the world’s first physical Beta. So why not get involved and shape a better way to work?

We will be opening our first site, Central Bloomsbury, in London in April 2011 so please share your thoughts on how you work and what you need to help make sure Central is just how it should be.

So, was our ‘Tea and Tovolo Challenge’ enough to persuade you to give up a tea bag habit for good?

3 Mar

Have you changed the habit of a life time to enjoy delicious loose tea all-day-everyday yet? If not, why not? What have you got to lose!

We are on a mission to encourage you to enjoy Lahloo Tea, all-day-everyday! We want you to enjoy Lahloo Tea as an everyday indulgence, not ‘just on special occasions’. Life is too short not to!

To help us on our mission we enrolled the help of our first set of lovely tea volunteers and asked them  to go ‘loose leaf’ for a week. Now we love our loose leaves and we don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t, but we needed to test our leaves on real hardened tea bag drinkers. We sent them all a Tovolo tea infuser and a pouch of Lahloo Breakfast tea. Then we simply waited for the results…

Tea hum drum

Was our ‘Tea and Tovolo Challenge’ enough to persuade our readers to give up their tea bag habit for good?

So have their habits changed? Are they sticking with loose leaf and enjoying it every day? Of course they are! Here’s their first hand experience…

Tea heaven

Volunteer No 1:  Sophie

Self Confessed:  “tea slurping, biscuit eating working Mum and wife”

Pre challenge:  “tea infusing is rather decadent, naturally slower.” “tea bags are quicker and easier.”

Overview:  “instructions were simple. A triumph of making ‘proper’ tea in a modern simplistic way”.

Experience: “it was a pleasure to spend a week using my Tovolo and the Lahloo Breakfast tea was just divine. I’m using at home now but with a view to convert work colleagues, to use it on the tea round-not brave enough yet!”

Overall: Thumbs up!Thumbs up! She’s sticking.

Volunteer No 2:  Sarah

Self Confessed: “tea fiend”

Pre challenge: used tea bags “mostly out of habit!” And “loose leaf would be messy and somewhat more complicated”.

Overview:  “the Tovolo tea infuser makes the process very easy, less than a minute to use it. No mess no fuss!”

Experience:  “loved using it at work/home. I’ll be sticking with loose leaves in my Tovolo from now on. The Lahloo Breakfast is an aromatic flavour which is much smoother. I’ve been filling it up ready to go and then giving it to my work colleagues on the tea run!”

Overall:  Thumbs up!Sticking, thank you!

Volunteer No 3:  Joanna

Self Confessed:  lives in a “tea crazy household”

Pre challenge:  used tea bags and has about 20 (big brand) teas on the go!

Overview:  “the ease and convenience are pretty handy. Making a nice cup tea is very easy”.

Experience:  Slightly mixed.  “I loved the leaves but not 100% sure about the Tovolo. I rate the tea extremely highly for flavour and fragrance that you just don’t get with PG Tips and Twinnings”.

Overall: Thumbs up!Sticking with the leaves thumbs down not sure about the Tovolo. Hey ho, we can’t win them all!

So, there we are! In a nutshell, a resounding success for Lahloo Tea and Tovolos! Why not try it yourself? Simply purchase our Tovolo tea infuser and Lahloo Breakfast  tea online, enter goloose at the checkout and receive the tea absolutely free for the rest of March. Shop now >

Just one request. We love having feedback, so please drop us a line with your views.

Happy Tovolo-ing!
