Will we have a white Christmas this year? Well, here at Lahloo we definitely will! Not necessarily because of the snow, but more because of our delicate and elegant white teas: from the pure, clean flavour of our Snow Jewel to the honeyed notes of White Whisper or the slightly stronger roasted tones of White Peony… Perfect to relax after an exhausting afternoon of Christmas shopping!

Hopefully you’ve done all your Christmas shopping by now and you can concentrate on getting ready for the celebrations! We’ve been very busy baking cookies, biscuits and these beautiful Christmas inspired macarons: cranberry and Earl Grey mincemeat.

…And of course, huge batches of mince pies (with our Earl Grey infused mincemeat!).

It’s time for some introductions!  This the Lahloo Pantry staff looking witchy and fabulous, getting ready for our first Witches Tea Party.

Don’t you love the hats?

On Sunday the 30th, just in time for Halloween, we turned the Pantry into a coven and served our visitors a very special afternoon tea: chai pumpkin tartlets, zombie gingerbread men, mini mud monsters, dead man’s finger sandwiches and witchy scones with our g&t.

Almost too cute to eat! 

But the star of the afternoon was our Witches Brew, a special blend of our sweet Yunnan Cloud black tea with apple and spices, a warming and comforting treat to protect you against the evil spirits… We want to share the love, so if you tried it and loved it, or if you’re feeling curious (sounds good, doesn’t it?), you can find our secret recipe here.

And what did we dance to? Our soundtrack was full of retro Halloween tunes, such as this feelgood classic!

So do you like our new logo? I hope you’re well and that you enjoyed a lovely summer. I’d like to thank you for your continued support of Lahloo Tea and for really getting behind what I have been trying to achieve. It makes a real difference to us to have such wonderfully supportive customers.

We’ve had a busy summer working on some very exciting developments here at Lahloo. This is your sneak preview of everything we’ve been beavering away on over the summer! Lucky people!

I remember September as a little girl. Lots of excitement because I got to choose new shoes (every girls dream)! Well, this September I feel strangely similar. But instead of new shoes for me, this year it’s a new look, fresh feel and even a new home for Lahloo!

That got your attention! Well, we are recruiting. Come and join the good ship Lahloo!

As you may have seen in our latest blogs, newsletters and tweets, we are opening our very first tea store here in Bristol in October this year (2011). The Lahloo Pantry is a huge but very exciting step for us. And to help us make it a roaring success we are looking for fabulous people with a love of food retail and hospitality and a real understanding of exceptional customer service to join us.

If that’s you, email Kate by September 19th and tell her why you would like to join the team. Tell her what experience you have and also what you think you could bring to the team. We like to have fun and of course drink lots of tea but most of all we love sharing our infectious passion for amazing tea with everyone out there.

We have different positions available, both full-time and part-time, and in all sorts of areas. So if you think you’d make a cracking store manager, supervisor or indeed the best infusionist in the land (well, we don’t need baristas we do need people who will learn how to serve the finest cup of tea in Bristol), then please don’t delay.

You see, matcha, vibrant fine-milled Japanese green tea, is jam packed full of antioxidants and vitamins a,b and c. Like coffee, it contains caffeine but it works differently. Together with two amino acids it gives you a slow release energy lift whilst keeping you calm and focused. Not only that but matcha can boost metabolism, energy and mood (it makes me smile) as well as help prevent heart disease and ageing.

But this week I’ve been under the weather and craving hot drinks. So I tweaked my smoothie recipe to make it a latte recipe with an additional healthy boost of manuka honey. It’s delicious and with a certain autumnal chill in the air, it’s my new favourite super healthy start to the day.

Try it too!

Matcha Latte
Makes 1

2 tsp. matcha
3 Tbsp. hot water
250ml organic milk (soya or rice milk also works well)
1 tsp. Manuka honey

In a mug, mix the matcha and hot water until it becomes a smooth paste (this is your base)

Warm the milk (I used my espresso steamer but you could do it in a pan on the hob) and honey over low heat, making sure the milk never reaches the boil. Once heated, pour into the mug and whisk until blended.
