Earl Grey biscuits

28 Mar

These Earl Grey biscuits are one of the recipes we’ve tried as part of our Earl Grey Challenge. They’re Lahloo Pantry’s chef Laura’s take on this recipe by Martha Stewart. Delicious and zesty, the perfect accompaniment to a cup of Earl Grey and a lovely present for friends or family!

Ingredients:

250g flour

225g butter

100g sugar

10g Lahloo Earl Grey

grated orange zest

a pinch of salt

Use a mortar to grind the tea leaves, mixing them with the flour and a pinch of salt.

In a separate bowl, mix butter, sugar and the orange zest. Then gradually add the dry ingredients to this mixture.

Divide the dough in two, and put each part on a separate piece of baking paper. Shape these  into logs, rolling them carefully in the baking paper to a diameter of about 1 and 1/4 inches. Freeze the logs in the baking paper for 1 hour.

Pre-heat the oven to 175 C .

Cut each log into biscuit-sized slices. Place them on a lined baking sheet about 1 inch apart.

Bake 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

Cool on a rack and they’re ready to eat! Enjoy!

An evening of British eccentrics!

15 Mar

Inspired by the traditional saying “Mad as a March hare”, we’ve decided to turn this month into a celebration of British eccentricity! Lahloo Pantry will be hosting our “British Eccentrics” Tea Workshop on Thursday the 29th of March, between 6-8pm!

Like Phileas Fogg, we’ll be travelling around the world discovering the nation’s favourite teas, from the high mountains of the Himalaya to the ancient tea gardens of Japan. We’ll taste and learn the story behind these teas, their health benefits or how to pair them with food.

Tickets are £15 and they’re 100% redeemable, so at the end of the workshop you’ll be able to choose your favourites and take them home to recreate the experience!

Places are limited so book yours fast. Call Lahloo Pantry 0117 329 2029 or e-mail hello@lahloopantry.co.uk.

It might be your favourite cuppa, but this quintessentially British tea also makes a great cooking ingredient! To celebrate our month of British eccentrics, we’ve decided to be playful and creative with this traditional brew. So here’s the challenge: how many ways of cooking with Earl Grey can you think of? Post us a link to your recipe and you could win a box of Earl Grey infused chocolates!

We’ll be collecting our favourite Earl Grey recipes on Pinterest. Send us a link to your recipes via Twitter (#EarlGreyChallenge), Facebook or as a WordPress comment (this entry only) until the 29th of March. The winner will be announced on Friday the 30th of March.

This competition is open to UK residents only. Only original recipes from your personal blog(s) will be valid.

Win five Alastair Sawday’s Best of British book collections!

1 Mar

Winter is nearly over and we’ve gone mad as a March hare! To celebrate our month of British Eccentrics, Alastair Sawday’s has given us five of its Best of British book collections to give to you. Like us, our friends at Sawday’s are passionate about what they do. While we scour far-flung lands for the best teas, they are at work hunting out characterful, independently-run hotels, inns, B&Bs and holiday homes – places to stay that are distinctly special.

Each Sawday’s Best of British book collection is filled with wonderful places to stay, eat and drink across Britain, from vast country houses to chic coastal hotels, and from chocolate-box cottage B&Bs to hidden city pubs. There’s something for everyone -and for dogs, too!  There are five different titles in each collection:

  • Pubs & Inns of England & Wales
  • British Bed & Breakfast
  • Eat Slow Britain
  • Dog-friendly Breaks in Britain
  • Go Slow England & Wales

For a chance to win, simply answer this question: In what city is Alastair Sawday’s based? Send us an e-mail with your answer or a postcard to Lahloo Tea, 12 Clifton Village, Bristol, BS8 4AB, including the code ‘SAWDAY’S’ and the answer.
