Love this new band! Paper Aeroplanes make perfect Sunday afternoon chilling!

29 Sep

Paper Aeroplanes new single, Cliche, is due to be out very soon, but we just couldn’t resist sharing this new band‘s sound with you! It is so chilled. It makes us think of a time when Sundays were for relaxing (not so many Sundays like that anymore). Imagine the perfect Sunday afternoon treat!

Kate‘s would be to go for a crisp, revitialising walk across Ashton Court then get home, batten down the hatches and curl up in front of the fire with a fantastic afternoon tea. Kate’s teatime treats would be

Lahloo is going to Feastival

We’re taking our loose-leaf tea on the road again! This time we’re taking Lahloo to the brand new event designed to inspire people (both young & old) to embrace a sustainable way of life. Hosted by Roger Saul‘s (founder of luxury brand, Mulberry) fabulous Sharpham Park in conjunction with Kilver Court and set in the beautiful grounds of Kilver Court, Feastival will be an interactive and fun event for all, aiming to raise awareness of sustainable ‘farm to fork living’.

There will be loads going on. Here’s a taster:

  • Hear talks about the environment, local wildlife and how to grow your own veg using organic rotation, along with ‘Waitrose Sow, Grow, Cook, Eat‘ initiative – an interactive area for children, linked to their sponsorship of the RHS Campaign for School Gardening.
  • Discover how to live, feel and look healthy and beautiful in a more sustainable, eco-friendly way. Jo Fairley and Sarah Stacey, of the ‘Green Beauty Bible’ share “10 Ways to Be Naturally Gorgeous”.
  • Hot topic forums with Patrick Holden, Director of the Soil Association and Masterchef winner, Thomasina Miers
  • Fun, foodie activities like ‘Cheese Skittles’, local producers sampling and selling their produce and on Saturday enjoy the hustle and bustle of St Catherine’s Artisan Market!
  • Learn new culinary skills – farming, cooking, baking and butchery
  • And so much more.

If you feel like a really good day out and you want t o learn more about a sustainable way of life, come along!

Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th October 2009 @ Kilver Court (see a map) – £5.00 for adults / £2.00 for children (under 2′s free!)

Video interview with Kate, Lahloo Tea’s Founder

23 Sep

In July we went to took Lahloo to food and wine lovers at Bristol Wine & Food Festival. We had a brillaint time tasting and sharing our fabulous loose-leaf tea with a whole host of interesting people. One of those people was Dan, from Business Zone.

Back in June, we applied to The Pitch 2009, a small business entrepreneur competition to win £50,000 worth of advice and support, but missed out by just one place! So Dan came to interview Kate to find out more about Lahloo as he was intrigued.

Lahloo tea ranting at Abergavenny Food Festival

Ranting at Abergavenny Castle
Ranting at Abergavenny Castle

We took Lahloo Tea to the fabulous crowd at Abergavenny Food Festival at the weekend. What an amazing food festival! If you’ve never been, go to the website and keep an eye out for next year’s date and get it booked in your diary. It’s the best food festival we’ve ever been to!

At the festival Kate, Lahloo Tea’s founder, got on stage with a microphone at Rude Health’s rant tent. Not one to be shy, Kate aired her views on the awful dust that most people associate with tea. As Kate threw dusty teabags at onlookers, she encouraged them to think about exactly what they are drinking. We are all so into tastes and aromas of wine, cheese, beer, chocolate and coffee but poor old tea has kind of got left behind!

Kate founded Lahloo when she discovered tea that tasted so good her taste buds came alive! She just couldn’t go back and decided to share her discovery with others. Discover loose-leaf tea now!

Childhood memories

18 Sep

Isn’t it funny how a smell, taste, sound, book, place can take you immediately back to a memory many years ago! I just spotted this video and it took me right back to my childhood.

Growing up, I used to love this book being read to me at bedtime, teatime, anytime really! Last time I came across it it took me back so much I decided to pass the memory on to someone else and who better than Lucy, my 4yr old niece.  As we’re like two peas in a pod, she also loves it.

If you’ve never read the book before, take a minute or 4 to sit back and enjoy it, with a cup of your favourite Lahloo tea and a piece of cake, of course!

It’s Autumn!

14 Sep
Hello!
I love everything about Autumn – the vibrant red, copper and berry hues, the blustery weather, the hearty food and that warm, fuzzy glow you get!
Inspired by the magic of Autmn, Lahloo’s unique Limited Edition Vanilla Mist loose leaf tea is extraordinarily tasty! A unique blend of Rich Ceylon, smokey Zheng Xiao Lapsang and golden White Tip oolong tea is sumptously infused with Bourbon Vanilla pods from Madagascar and Cinnamon quills from Ceylon.
The perfect warming, indulgent Autumn tea treat is £6.00/50g (about 100 indulgent cups of tea!), visit our online tea boutique here to purchase yourself a treat today*, then grab your wellies, scuff in fallen leaves in the park with friends and get cosy with home-made, hot buttered crumpets in front of a roaring fire!

*Go on indulge! Visit Lahloo tea boutique before 30th September and we’ll deliver your treat absolutley free. Now, you can’t beat that for a treat! But we’ve only made 1kg of our indulgent treat, so don’t miss out!
Have fun!
Kate,
Lahloo’s Founder
PS. Don’t forget to make your crumpets!
This is a recipe I’ve tweaked slightly to make delicious crumpets every time. Just perfect with organic unsalted butter and a sprinkle of cinnamon!

Here’s what you will need:
450g/1lb plain flour, sifted
½ tsp sea salt
1 tsp caster sugar
2 tsp/1x7g sachet fast-action dried yeast
300ml/½ pint warm organic milk
300ml /½ pint warm water
rapeseed oil
crumpet rings or plain pastry cutters, greased
Here’s how you make them:
1. Put the flour and salt into a large bowl, stir in the sugar and yeast and make a well in the centre. Pour the warm milk and water into the well and mix to a thick batter. Beat well until the mixture is completely combined and cover with cling film.
2. Leave in a warm place to rise for about 1 hour until it’s light and spongy. Stir well to knock out the air.
3. Heat a non-stick frying pan over a very low heat with a drop of the oil. Remove any excess oil with kitchen paper, then place the greased crumpet rings in the pan and leave to warm up for 2 minutes.
4. With a ladel, half-fill the rings. Leave to cook for about 8 minutes, or until lots of little holes appear and the batter has just dried out.
5. Remove the rings and turn over the crumpets to cook on the other side for about 2 minutes. Sit the cooked crumpets on a wire rack.
6. Serve immediately with lots of butter and cinnamon.
7. Now make a pot of Vanilla Mist, find a roaring fire, snuggle up to somebody special and relax!
